Welcome Brewers!

The Wort Hogs will brew anywhere, but we meet in the northern Virginia suburbs of Reston and Herndon, Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm, at the Herndon Mellow Mushroom.

Our Mission: Advancing the art, science, evaluation and enjoyment of home produced beer and the responsible consumption thereof. We aim to give our members and guests a deeper appreciation of the making and enjoyment of truly exceptional homebrewed beer, mead, and wine.

Decembeer meeting

The December Wort Hogs meeting will be Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 7:30 pm at the Mellow Mushroom in Herndon, Virginia.

The month we will hold officer elections.  Its not too late to volunteer, so let us know if you are interested in helping out.

This months competition is Co-Brew Strong Ales, which will include BJCP categories 1918C, 18D and 18E.  Co-Brew teams will receive 2 additions points.

If you are interested in entering the competition, please e-mail worthogsofficers@gmail.com informing us of your beer and specific BJCP style and substyle it corresponds to.  Please be sure to bring enough beer to share.  We recommend at least 64 oz (a standard growler or a 6 pack)

November Meeting

The November Wort Hogs meeting will be Wednesday, November 11, 2015 (Veterans Day) at 7:30 pm at the Mellow Mushroom in Herndon, Virginia.

This months competition is Spiced Beer, BJCP 21A and 21B

2016 Competition Schedule update

The competition schedule for 2016 is almost finalized and the first few months are listed below.  The full schedule will be posted soon.  Note that next year we will begin using the 2015 BJCP style guidelines, which incorporate quite a few changes from the previous 2008 guidelines.  The 2015 version has not yet been posted in a quick lookup web version, only PDF.

January – American/English Porters and Stouts – BJCP 13C, 15B, 15C, 16, 20
February – Belgian Ales – BJCP 24, 25
March – Open Competition – “People’s Choice” Open to all styles.
