2017 Competition Schedule

We will be using the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for competitions in 2017.  There are no direct links to individual style guidelines, but you can download PDF and MSWord copies of the separate Beer, Mead and Cider guidelines HERE
  • January 11 – Stouts and Porters, BJCP 13c, 15b, 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d, 20a, 20b, 20c,
  • February 8 – No Competition
  • March 8 – People’s Choice/Open Category
  • April 12 – American Beer – 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 18a, 18b, 19a, 19b, 19c
  • May 10 – Pale Ale/IPA – 12C, 21a, 21b, 22a, 24B
  • June 7 – No Competion (NHC)
  • July 12 – Saison/Wheat – 1d, 10a, 10b, 10c, 22d, 25b
  • August 9 – No Competition
  • September 13 – CO-BREW – Trappist and Strong Belgian Ales – BJCP 25a, 25b, 25c, 26a, 26b, 26c, 26d.
  • October 11 – Mead/Cider – M1A, M1B, M1C, C1A-E
  • November 8 – No Competition
  • December 13 – Spiced/Fruit Beer – 29a, 29b, 29c, 30a, 30b, 30c

  • April 13 – Amber/Brown Ales – BJCP 13A, 13B, 15A, 19
  • May 11 – IPA – BJCP 12C, 21, 22A
  • June 8 – No Competition
  • July 13 – Wheat – BJCP 1D, 10
  • August 10 – American Ales – BJCP 1, 18
  • September 14 – Co-Brew European Beer – BJCP 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8. Co-brew teams get 2 additional BotY points (a co-brew team consists of one or more people with whom you “normally” don’t brew)
  • October 12 – No Competition
  • November 9 – Spiced Mead, Spiced Cider & Spiced Beer – BJCP M3, C2E & 30
  • December 14 – Barleywine/Strong Ales – BJCP 17, 22B, 22C, 26D

2015 Competition Schedule

  • January 14 — Porter BJCP 12 & Stout BJCP 13
  • February 11 — No Competition.  Meeting at Lost Rhino (tentative)
  • March 11 — English & Scottish – BJCP 8 and BJCP 9 (A-C & E)
  • April 8 — Belgian & French Ale – BJCP 16
  • May 13 — American Ale – BJCP 10
  • June 10 — Fruit Beer – BJCP 20
  • July 8 — India Pale Ale (IPA) – BJCP 14
  • August 12 — No Competition. Meeting location TBD
  • September 9 — People’s choice – open to all styles
  • October 14 — Mead & Cider –  Mead BJCP 24, 25, 26 & Cider 27 & 28
  • November 11 — Spiced Beer (pumpkin/holiday spice, etc) BJCP 21A & 21B
  • December 9 — Co-Brew Strong Ale – BJCP 19 plus BJCP 18C, 18D & 18E. Co-brew teams get 2 additional BotY points (a co-brew team consists of one or more people with whom you “normally” don’t brew)

2014 Competition Schedule

  • January 8 — (results) American Pale Ale single hop: use a single hop variety for all additions: bittering, flavoring, aroma – BJCP 10A
  • February 12 — (results) Stout – BJCP 13
  • March 12 — (results) Session Beers: < 4.5% ABV — Can be any style; must be below 4.5% ABV
  • April 9 — No competition. Meet at brewery or brewpub (TBD)
  • May 14 — (results) Wheat and Rye – BJCP 15
  • June 11 — (results) Non-BJCP: e.g. Black IPA, Honey beers, Imperial Red, etc. Any style not recognized as a style by BJCP
  • July 9 — (results) India Pale Ale – BJCP 14
  • August 13 — No competition. Meet at brewery or brewpub (TBD)
  • September 10 — (results) European Amber Lager – BJCP 3
  • October 8 — (results) Co-brew: Pumpkin or Vegetable beer – see BJCP 21A. Co-brew teams get 2 additional BotY points (a co-brew team consists of one or more people with whom you “normally” don’t brew)
  • November 12 — (results) Cider & Mead – BJCP 24, 25, & 26: Mead / BJCP 27 & 28: Cider
  • December 10 — Christmas ales/Holiday spice (BJCP 21B)

2013 Competition Schedule

  • January—Porter (12)
  • February—Extract / People’s Choice: Any style of extract beer can be entered (1–23). Rather than judge to style guidelines, people can score based on what they like. COC May 2013 (COC = AHA Club Only Competition. Winner of our club comp can enter the AHA COC on behalf of the club).
  • March—English Ale (8) / Scottish and Irish ales (9) / Brown ale (11)
  • April—Bock (5)
  • May—No competition; host at brewery TBD
  • June—BJCP 24, 25, & 26, Mead / BJCP 27 & 28, Cider
  • July—Belgian and French Ale (BJCP 16)
  • August—No competition; host at brewery TBD
  • September—English and American IPA (14a14b)
  • October—Imperial Competition: BJCP 12C, Baltic (Imperial) Porter; BJCP 13F, Imperial Stout; and BJCP 14C, Imperial IPA
  • November—Co-brew: Pilsner BJCP 2; Co-brew teams get 2 additional BotY points (a co-brew team consists of one or more people with whom you “normally” don’t brew)
  • December—Strong Ales: Old Ales and Barley Wines (19)
