Our friends in BURP are looking for stewards for the Spirit of Free Beer homebrew competition on May 16 and 17. Stewarding is a great way to learn about beer judging and how competitions work. SOFB, which has been around for 22 years, is a particularly good learning experience. Volunteers are also able to enter beers into the competition. They will simply be assigned to work with an unrelated judging team.
To sign up, register at http://sofb.brewcomp.com/. Two shifts are needed for each day:
Fri., May 16 from 3:30 – 6 and/or 6 – 9:30 p.m. at Lakevale Estates Community Center (2554 Oak Valley Drive, Vienna, VA 22181)
Sat., May 17 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and/or 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. at Mad Fox Brewing Co. (444 W Broad St, Falls Church, VA 22046)
Thanks for your help!
The May meeting will be at 7:30pm on Wednesday May 14 at The Mellow Mushroom, located at 1030 Elden St in Herndon VA. The competition this month is BJCP 15, German Wheat and Rye.
For anyone interested in tasting more of the off flavors from the sensory analysis kit, we’ll be doing a few more of those starting an hour before the meeting at 6:30pm. Just show up early if you want to participate.
The April meeting will be at 7:30pm on Wednesday April 9 at The Mellow Mushroom, located at 1030 Elden St in Herndon VA. There is no competition this month, so just bring a bottle to share! We plan to do a few more tastings from our “sensory analysis kit” that allows us to showcase specific off flavors.
The March meeting will be at 7:30pm on Wednesday March 12 at The Mellow Mushroom, located at 1030 Elden St in Herndon VA. This months competition is Session Ales. Beers can be any category, but must be below 4.5% ABV.
